Flute player with frog

Sometimes, when I look back at some of my drawings from long ago, I wonder what I was thinking when I drew them. Case in point -- this illustration from 1976 of a Pan-like flute player serenading a cartoon frog.



I do remember that the inspiration for the guy with the flute was a photograph of a musician that I saw in some magazine. But the frog...? I have no idea. -- PL

    Were you a Bernie Wrightson fan during this period? I see some similarities in the way you handle your hatching. I although I suppose anyone thats proficient with pen and ink would do something of that sort, I just known Bernie at that time period.

    Was it Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull that inspired this? (One of my favorite bands of all times). There is a wonderful quality of sort of an English fairy story here that makes me think of some of their music.

    I was -- and still am -- a big fan of Bernie Wrightson's work. I feel lucky to own a couple of his originals. However, at that time, I was probably more enamored of the technique of Barry Smith, who drew some of those great early issues of "Conan" for Marvel. -- PL

    Woah, I really butchered the english language with my comment here, I must of been tired! Anyways thanks for answering my question! I too am a Wrightson fan, but my pen and ink work has been more influenced by others, particularly Joseph Clement Cole as of recently.

    Well most of it is kept to myself at the present moment, but the short answer is...November :-)

    the long answer is, currently working on getting a site together, and (hopefully) a few things are in the works for the reasonably near future!
