Robots at ease

I was (and still am) a huge fan of the original "Star Wars" movie, and from time to time have tried my hand at drawing some of the characters from it. This particular drawing focuses on some of the 'droids, including the beloved C-3PO and R2-D2. This particular scene could have been a quiet moment during their time aboard the Jawas' sand crawler.

I think I may have done this drawing for a fanzine, but I can't recall for certain. One thing I like about it is the visual gag about robots drinking oil (Mike Dooney knows whereof I speak). And check out the cameo appearance by Professor Honeycutt! -- PL

This is really fantastic. I'm very tickled by the robots drinking oil bit myself.

C3PO really looks puzzled about what move should be next.

-->> ..the reclining droid in back on the hammock looks a bit like Jabba's evil droid in charge of his dungeon EV 9D9 from " JEDI ".

Dated 1984, i'm wondering if that might be indeed be the case of that bot's inspiration.

EV-9D9 was one of my favourite characters in the Star Wars saga!

More Star Wars stuff please.. Hey Tristan, Australians must love the fact that now every clone trooper has an Aussie accent in the new clone Wars series :)

Not to mention that the Digeree Doo now has a permanent place in the sound track :)

Thanks, Mr. Laird. Now you have me jonesing for a full-on Star Wars droids/Fugitoid crossover.

Actually, it was REALLY bizarre. What was even weirder was hearing Boba Fett! It's cool, but I grew up with Jason Wingreen.

-->> ..thankfully .. current official DVD releases ( and i believe this is globally ) retain give both versions :: the altered Special editions and the original '70s - '80s theatrical versions. Like the version of Empire that retains Jason's voice.

I like this! I'm a huge star wars fan myself and seeing more crossover art with the Fugitoid would be awesome.

Thanks! I have a couple more "Star Wars"-related drawings that I'll probably post in the future, but sadly none involving the 'Toid. -- PL

Any pictures of Darth or the Emperor to post? Who knew the Emperor was a Scottish Lad?

One of these days, I'll make it back to the ancestral home land :)
