Blast from the Past #366: "Clubs" minicomic

I recently ran across a small stash of these mini-comics in my files -- about a dozen copies, though I think I may have more somewhere. I wrote and drew this sixteen-page (of which the last two pages are text) mini in 1982, back when I was involved with the local Nuclear Freeze movement in the Northampton/Amherst area.

The comic measures about 4 1/4" by 2 7/8", and is printed in black and white. I can't at this time, recall if this was something that I printed on my own (and when I say "printed", I mean "Xeroxed") and donated to my local Nuclear Freeze group, or if the group paid to have it reproduced. In any event, I don't think many of them were made… and I have never seen one turn up in the years since.

The story is about proliferation, and while it is a simple tale, I have always thought it was one of my best efforts in comics, in terms of telling a story efficiently. I'm thinking of asking Dan to put some of these up on eBay to see if they would sell. -- PL

Cool idea to get a message across.
I'm sure they would do good on Ebay as a Peter Laird fan that would a one of a kind collectible. The question is would it be affordable after all those bids? haha.

I would be interested in seeing how much they would go for on ebay. Funny, you wrote this in 1982 and 29 years later we are still trying to get rid of the nukes. Back in the early 80's President Reagan said he would like to see all nuclear weapons abolished. It was one of the few things I agreed with him on. At least 30 years later President Obama signed the Arms treaty to slash the US and Russia's nuclear arsenals by a third. That's a small step in the right direction.
I wouldn't mind giving this a read. The cover with the two caveman has piqued my interest. I follow the tmnt_toys page on ebay often. I usually cant afford what is put up after all the bidding is through. If Dan does put this up please let us know. I get the feeling what you wrote in this mini comic back in 82 would still be relevant today. ;)
