A morning visitor

I had just finished my second waffle this morning when our dog Parker jumped up, paws on the window sill to my left, and started barking. I looked out the window and saw at the edge of our lawn... a coyote.

Although I have seen these critters a few times on our property or in the neighborhood, usually briefly as they slip into the trees and brush, this was the first time I'd seen one that close to the house. I guess this means I have to keep a closer eye on little Louis when I let him out. -- PL

That's wild you have coyotes running around in your yard, especially in the open daylight like that. The best you'll see in Florida is the sporadic dear or two, and when that happens it's a really big deal haha.

Cool wildlife sighting, though I'd agree that I'd rather not have coyotes waslking around in my back yard. It probably goes without saying, but make sure you keep your garbage well sealed when you put it out. You don't want anything that's going to attract those critters.

We could actually use some coyotes down here in New Jersey. The deer here are so out of control, it's dangerous. I think foxes are pretty much the biggest carnivores we have here.

Thats so cool, haven't seen any coyotes in Westchester county, NY. Just lots of deer, bunnies and birds. its the reason i get up very early every morning, just to enjoy nature and have the clear morning light on everything.

aww,thats a good pic.
theyre both just staring at each other.

i know some dogs that ended up being friends with local wolves.
maybe they wanna be cool.

Great pic! Good timing.

Coyotes are a bit of a problem here in CA, they've been known to snatch small dogs right off of leashes. My cat doesn't go outside except for the occasional supervised excursion inside the fence because coyotes come through the area at all times of the day. Every night they serenade us. :)

I get five deer come in my yard twice a week but thats about it here in Va.

Id keep the pets in door is Wille E Coyote is afoot. It looks like your dog and the coyote are staring each other down. It makes a nice image.

I wonder what kind of mutant or alien or monster that ole Parker might inspire?

oo!!! I live in a "city" area-- I can still remember walking my dog Finster at 6 am in the winter, only to see two coyotes strolling down our street!!

Then there's the one I saw in the daytime that had taken up residence in the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino. (huntington.org)

Definitely keep an eye on the pets!!!

But here's the thing-- I really didn't know (I'm so ignorant after all these years) that coyotes were on the East Coast! Wow!

By the way, great picture!

GIGANTIC fan, sir. Trying to be a comic creator myself and decided to give it a shot: any chance Mirage would want to publish any new comics by upcoming creators? My email is Aofthedead@gmail.com Even a harsh NO would mean a lot coming from you.

Aaron, I'm afraid that at this point I have no intention of publishing anything through Mirage that doesn't come from me or one of the other Mirage dudes. Sorry! However, if you want to try self-publishing, you should check out the Xeric Foundation (xericfoundation.org), which awards grants to help people publish their own work. -- PL

Yes, I read about that yesterday... tragic, and a creepy coincidence. -- PL
