"Monument", color version

Back on January 10, I posted this image (to which I have now given the title "Monument"), and said that "I may do a color version." Well, it took a couple of weeks, but for what it's worth, I made good on that threat, and here it is.

I have not yet gotten up the courage to try Stan Sakai's technique for doing backgrounds using the frisket film, so for this one I scanned the watercolored art and used Photoshop to drop in a background -- actually a filtered sky photo I took a few years ago. I like it all right, but I'm not totally happy with it -- I may go back and mess around with it some more. -- PL

I always find it interesting seeing what colorized choose to do with an image once they start working on it. When I saw your pencils, Pete, I actually imagined it being a lot darker -- as though the monument itself were hidden deep within the woods, without the open sky above. Looks great though!

Damned autocorrect on these iPads! Colorized should have read colorists!

I'll have to agree on this one. The sky just seems... wrong somehow on this picture. Perhaps It looks out of place because of the definite color, as opposed to the rest of the drawing, which has more of that markery look. Or maybe it's just too dark/light or the hue is off or something. I dunno... but thats my 2 cents...

I guess that makes three of us. I was envisioning a location like the planet Apokolips that this drawing might be depicting and giving a red hinted sky color.

I think the sky would look awesome with maybe some watercolor or ink wash clouds worked in somehow. I love the watercolor look on the drawing and the pathway beneath the bicyclist.

Either way, it's a cool drawing!
