Bruce Laird art in new exhibit

My brother Bruce, prolific painter/photographer/collagist, has two pieces in an upcoming show in East Norwich, Long Island. Here's the poster for the event:

Bruce Laird show at Noho Gallery

I'm kicking myself that I didn't do this earlier, because it ends on November 24. But better late than never....? 

My brother Bruce Laird has a show of his paintings, photographs, collage and mixed media pieces at the Noho Gallery in New York CIty. Here's the entry on his blog about the show. The painting pictured here is actually a portrait of me... the me of long ago.

Enter the blogger...

It was on December 26, 2009, that my brother Bruce put up his first blog post. He followed that up with about half a dozen more, then stopped.

Time passed.

Then, almost two years later to the day from that first post, he posted again -- and now he's started to do it regularly. I couldn't be happier, as it appears that the last two years spent haranguing my brother to get serious about his blog have paid off.

(I haven't really gotten on his case too much… I think. I've just been, uh, encouraging him to post more. Yeah, that's the ticket.)

Seriously, I am really looking forward to seeing what he does with this thing. We live quite a distance apart from each other, and don't get to hang out nearly as much as I'd like to, so this could turn out to be a great way to keep up on a regular basis with what he's up to, especially in the development of his art projects (painting and photography, mostly). I hope he puts up lots of stuff about his process, and shots of work in progress.

Bruce's willingness to try new things and produce lots of stuff has always impressed me. I am proud to be the owner of four of his paintings, all of which hang in our house. No, wait, make that five (I forgot the awesome "Mr. Spock" one he did for me two Christmases ago… how illogical!).

Please join me in welcoming my brother Bruce Laird into the blogging realm. His life will never be quite the same again! -- PL

Ride with Bruce

I had the great pleasure of a visit from my brother Bruce this past weekend -- he rode up on his new Victory Vision Tour (he'd traded in his beloved Gold Wing). I was a bit concerned that the weather wasn't going to cooperate, but we lucked out and got two beautiful days to ride. On one of those days, we took a blast up Mt. Greylock, enjoying the newly-paved access road.

Fun with Bruce

After Steve Lavigne left, I had another visitor -- my brother Bruce. He came up on Sunday to geek and ride. Unfortunately, the wonderful, sunny, warm weather we had on Friday and Saturday deserted us... we had thunderstorms on Sunday, and today started out rainy and cold. It stayed that way until the afternoon, when the rain petered out (but it was still cold). Bruce REALLY wanted to go for a ride (he had not been out riding yet this year), so when the rain stopped, it was "go time". We bundled up and took the two Victory's out, riding up to Shelburne Falls for a late lunch at McCusker's. It actually wasn't too bad -- I mean, I've been riding in colder temperatures than today's 43°.

At one point on the ride home, we stopped by a little marshy area to take some photos I wanted to try stitching into a panorama. I think it came out well.



It's interesting how the straight road gets distorted into what looks like a curvy stretch. I continue to be impressed by the way Panorama Maker4 works. -- PL
