Blast from the Past #143: Weird meeting doodle

I stumbled upon this oddity yesterday while out in the old studio looking (unsuccessfully) for something else. It's a wacky doodle I made during some meeting at Mirage -- I'm not sure if it was a TMNT- or Funatix!-related meeting. The brief notes I scrawled in the upper left are obscure in meaning, although I think the reference to "louvered blinds vs. roll-ups" refers to the shades we chose for Mirage years ago. (Although I suppose it could refer to shades for the Funatix! office space we briefly rented in Florence, MA... who knows?)

One kind of interesting thing about this drawing is that I did it on the back of a piece of scrap paper which had an image printed on the reverse side. You can partially see that image through the paper. Anyone recognize what it is? -- PL

I've lost track of how many meeting notes, class work books and lecture notes have been lost to similar doodling! Looks cool as though! Love that skull!

Very good, Dave... now do you know which issue of which comic? -- PL

I swear, your old studio must be a blessing and a curse-- so many lost treasures-- yet HOW can you find anything you're really looking for?

I know! There are a few of us who would selfishly-- I mean, selflessly volunteer to clean up all that clutter for you. *nods altruistically*

Oh-- I just read the important discussion that took place at that meeting-- LOL!!! Who won that decision, Murphy or Lawson? And which wanted which?

Is that snoopy's Doghouse on the other side? LOL

Heh, it looks like it belongs on the planet Dahoonib :)

I wouldn't have said building, though. To me it looks like some kind of funky looking box or communicator..

Agreed, Tristan. I could have cared less about the crap they tried to teach us in school, knowing I'd never use any of it in real life.I'd rather they'd re-structure school to be more like college..where you focus on what you want to learn.

Many a math homework has a drawing on the back of it. I still kept a few....

You seem to do a lot of stumbling (clearly there are many things to stumble into in your line of work). Keep up the stumbling; I love getting a glimpse of each of these treasures. But please, don't slip on some unseen treasure and stumble the wrong way :)

-->> ** OK, illustrated HERE .. ::

♦ ♦

.. to get a clue, we take the illustration and turn it about a quarter clockwise.

We need to then ' REVERSE ' the sideways illustration. We need to flip it. As if we were holding Peter's little Toad guy on the skull there in a mirror.

..

We do this since the illustration on the back was the original document. It was used as a scrap piece of paper for Pete's doodle. We have no way of seeing the flip side of this drawing. The little that is bleeding out from the other side is kind of tricky to read.

Logic dictates that if flip the skull illustration, the bleed thru' would read even more giving us a better clue as to what this item is on the back.

Hi-lighting the bleed - thru' image we see some sort of Vector - like structure.

.. it would appear to me as a computer rendering of some sort, a building.

** The answer is here ..

::Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles v.1 #20 ..pg.9 {Return To New York pt.2 }

-->> ** The View Close - up .. reveals when Donatello,the Turtles, & their delusional Triceraton ally Zog infiltrate a Foot Communications center. Hacking into the Foots' computer database ::

Don discovers this rendering of the Hudson Block and the actual ' INTERNAL ' structure of the Foot's building.

The flip - side of the Pete's skull doodle here is some form of that vector / computer rendering of Shredder's 'Hudson Block' headquarters.

It was a false-front or "MASK" to disguise itself among the other olde NYC buildings.

Inside, no one would suspect that it was a complex stronghold, armory , genetics lab, weapons stockade , tunnel & communication network hub, and Saki's main base.

..this is somewhat similar in effect to those old Vector video games i played as a child like "Star Wars","Asteroids", and "Tempest" ..

Very good, Dave! That is exactly what it is. I created that graphic using some program (can't remember which) on my old Atari ST computer. -- PL
